Well, I met with Chuck and Maryann yesterday. The plans have been set. Right now, a side from any breeding requests, QMR will not be doing anymore foal crops for 2014. It's just become too difficult to find the foals good homes and the changes coming will make it even harder. Our rare colored Thoroughbred lines are on unsure ground too with new stricter guidelines being put in place for registration. This worries me though since I have 2 top performing fillies that will be ready to retired next year; both of which are rare colored. Golden Pheonyx and Golden Sapphire are both so close to becoming graded stakes racers, I can taste it. What we will do with their foals if they are rare colored? Will people want to put in the effort for them? Only time will tell I guess. I have put up two of our racers for sale all ready, Graceful Wind and Glad Tidings. I will miss them both but We need to thin down the number of our racing team. More will have to go soon to make room for some of the newcomers like Lasting Impression and Prince, our new Arabian racing prospect. We also just received a great little colt, Primetime Feature out of Marilyn M and sired by the #1 race horse, Impossible Feat. We were equally excited to hear that Marilyn gave birth to twins! Luckily the delivery went well and both colts were healthy. They took a little more time since they were smaller, but eventually, Primetime was able to return home with Marilyn. We are so excited to have him and can't wait to see how he does when the time comes to get him on the track.
Not a day goes by that I am not thankful that I have Chuck here to help me. QMR has grown to be so much more that I had ever dreamed and the stress of it all, is sometimes too much for me. He is always there to remind me that we need to keep moving forward; take each day as a gift. Evelynn is my gift though and any day I can spend time with her, is even better. She loves Echo by the way! Loves him! She wants to go visit him and Magic Muffin everyday with her trusted little dog, Lola right behind her.
We have continued the training on all of our racers, but Black Fire is giving us a little bit of a headache. He has become so eager to race, he can’t settle down in the practice gate. I think after getting his first taste of a true race, he wants to keep going. It’s great to see, but I am worried that he will hurt himself trying to get out too fast. Too many horses lose races and get injured by this type of behavior so Chuck and Scott, Black Fire's new jockey, are working with him constantly. On the fillies’ side of things, All I Can Do is beginning to show her age. I am worried that she won’t be able to make it to her tenth birthday on the track and may need to be retired earlier than I had planned. She is so close to becoming a Graded racer, I would hate for her to miss out on such an accomplishment. Dr. Rowley is watching her more closely now and checking her after every training session. She doesn't look bad, quite good actually; but every once in a while I see something in her eye, a look like she isn't enjoying it like she used to.
I have been checking in on Echo from time to time and he has been doing great. Vera, a new staff member caring for our Stock breeding horses has been keeping a close eye on him and giving me regular updates and pictures! I wish I could watch him all day every day sometimes. He has such a spunky fun loving attitude that makes him such a joy to have around. I still haven't decided who, but one of my mares will be going to Jester Coleman to be bred with her stallion, Bane. My hopes for the foal will be a new stock racer, but most of all, I have been wanting a foal by her for such a long time! She has also asked for a breeding to be done for an Appendix Quarter horse. This will be the first at QMR, but I am very excited to do it. The pair has already been decided and the breeding has taken place, Jester just doesn't know who the pair is. She asked that it be a surprise. It will no doubt be a great result and I am excited to show her the new little foal once it is born!
