On a misty morning at the Long View Race Track, the jockeys and horses were getting ready for the first race of the day. Everyone looked great and spirits were high. Preparations had been made and training was done, it was time to see if it would all pay off; then the bell rang! They were off, running down the track and headed for the first turn. Roger Aldrich was riding QMR One More Time in the middle of the pack as they took the first turn when the horse ahead of them, PR's Any Day, tripped and fell. Roger had no time to react and One More Time tumbled over the horse, rolling over onto Roger. Roger was pinned between two thrashing horses as more horses ran and jumped around them when he disappeared from view. Cheyenne Cavender, his wife and owner of Quiet Meadows Ranch, watched in horror from her usual seat, holding her breath. Then she saw One More Time finally get to his feet, but Roger didn't move. She and her friend, Kiki Potter rushed to the field as Chuck Lang took hold of One More Time to check for injuries. Medics rushed the track. Cheyenne watched as they began CPR, he wasn't breathing and had numerous injuries over his body. When the ambulance arrived, they moved him onto the truck and quickly made their way to the Long View Hospital. Unfortunately, Roger Aldrich was pronounced dead upon arrival.
