We began taking on a new endeavor at the end of ES year 3 by purchasing a large number of stock horses for Stock racing. When we began purchasing our new horses, Cheyenne began looking for the right place to house them. A small facility was purchased nestled in a nearby farming town. Although the area was lovely, we quickly outgrew it and Cheyenne again began searching. What Cheyenne stumbled upon was a small but overgrown and neglected island off the coast of Long View. The island is large enough to house a new and larger facility, as well as a training track. It also had a very cute cottage; however it too needed quite a bit of work.
Cheyenne contracted a company to clean up the island so that the plans for the new facility and track could be drawn up. It took some time and was slowed when an early winter storm came in. Cheyenne had to wait for the season to pass before any further work could be done. When Spring arrived, Cheyenne was desperate to get the work going again and pushed for the work to be completed as quickly as possible. Luck was on her side and the new stables were done just after summer began. The horses were moved over as soon as possible but work on the cottage is still taking place.
the cottage was in a much worse state than previously thought, but Cheyenne was just in love with it and determined to make it livable once again. The exterior was fixed up and a small hobby farm was put together, complete with chickens, swans and ducks (by the request of Evelynn, Cheyenne's young daughter.) For the time being, the new stock racing trainer, Glenn Tunning and newer jockey, Anna Silverman have joined Cheyenne at the island to get the horses settled in and ready for their careers and are living in the small basement built below the office for emergencies.
The basement is cramped but livable until the cottage is finished and so far, everyone is getting along superbly.
Along with our new racers, we also have a few broodmares and studs that were purchased when a larger facility was thinning their numbers. APH/AQHs are now the newest breeds owned and available for breeding at Quiet Meadows Ranch!
